The project direction and choice of targeted issue was decided whilst researching the many issue contributing to the greater issue of 'Life Below Water' where I was able to decide on addressing waste water pollution and its affects on our surrounding aqautic eco-systems and eventually back to ourselves, as explaoned in the video above.
After ideation and professinal feedback, the final product that came to be is a waste water filter for domestic use.
This is because domestic setting contributes significantly to waste water with microplastics, oils, pesticides, etc.
The filter itself utilises aggregate materials such as sand, activated carbon and gravel to filter contaminants. Testing was conducted to provide proof of concept and affirmed under microscopic inspection afterwards.
The choice of these materials was chosen as they are readily available to the consumer and accesssbility in this kind of product was where as the designer, I chose to attempt innovation as other domestic filtration products can be very complx with their mechanics and material/mineral choice, leading to an un-accessible desig for the consumer to interact with. On top of this, the higher complexity drives up the price of these domestic filter products significantly.
